Douglas Hogeboom, B. SC Mathematics, FSA, FCIA

Douglas Hogeboom held the position of President and CEO of The Empire Life Insurance Company from May 2001 until his retirement in 2008.

Mr. Hogeboom joined Empire Life Insurance Company in 1974 and held various management positions in Actuarial Product Development and Pricing, Investment Products, Individual Financial Products, Finance and Human Resources.

Mr. Hogeboom has served on several professional Boards and Committees including EL Financial Corporation, The Empire Life Insurance Company, Concordia Life Insurance Company (formerly Colonia Life) and the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) where he was also a member of the Resources Committee. From 2007 to 2008 he was a member of Assuris' Industry Advisory Committee.

Mr. Hogeboom is based in Kingston and has been very involved in supporting his community. He has been a member of numerous committees and working groups of organizations within the Kingston area. He has received various awards for his community involvement including the Paul Harris Fellowship presented by the Cataraqui Rotary Club and an Honorary Diploma from St. Lawrence College, Kingston Campus.

Mr. Hogeboom earned a Bachelors of Science degree specializing in Mathematics from Queen’s University and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and Society of Actuaries.

Mr. Hogeboom was elected to the Board of Directors of Assuris in 2009.
