Fred Gorbet, CM, PhD
Mr. Gorbet is the CIT Chair in Financial Services and Associate Director of the Financial Services Program at the Schulich School of Business, York University.
Mr. Gorbet served in the Public Service of Canada from 1968 to 1992 in a number of positions including Associate Secretary to the Cabinet and Deputy Minister of Finance. He also served as Executive Director of the Task Force on the Future of the Canadian Financial Services Sector (the MacKay Task Force).
He has held senior executive positions in the life insurance industry with North American Life Assurance Company and with Manulife Financial. Mr. Gorbet currently chairs the Finance and Audit Committees of the Lawyers Professional Indemnity Corporation (LAWPRO) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). He is Vice Chair of the Government of Canada Audit Committee.
He is a member of the Advisory Council to the Dean of the Schulich School of Business and an Honorary Governor of York University.
Mr. Gorbet earned a Bachelor of Arts from York University and a PhD in Economics from Duke University. He was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2000.
Mr. Gorbet was elected to the Board of Directors of Assuris in 2001 and became Chair of the Board in 2011.
