Hélène F. Fortin, FCA




Ms. Fortin is a practicing chartered accountant in Montréal since 1990. She currently is a partner at Demers Beaulne, a chartered accountants firm in Montreal offering a wide range of services to private and publicly traded companies.

From 1985 to 1989, Ms. Fortin was Assistant to the Vice President, Acquisitions and Treasury, at Quebecor Inc. where her responsibilities included business acquisitions. Ms. Fortin began her career with the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).

She is a member of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) Assurance and Auditing Standards Board since 2006. Ms. Fortin was involved from 1982 to 2005 with the Interprovincial Board of Examiners for the CICA. Ms. Fortin has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in accountancy and auditing at a number of universities, including HEC, McGill and UQAM.

Ms. Fortin was appointed to the following Boards of Directors: Concordia University in 2007, Bellus Health (TSX Blu) in 2008, the Federal Department of Canada Economic Development for the Quebec region in 2008, Loto Quebec in 2008, CBC from 2003 to 2008 and Hydro-Quebec from 2006 to 2008.

Ms. Fortin earned a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from Concordia University and a graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy with Honours from McGill University. Ms. Fortin is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and obtained her graduate ICD.D designation in 2006 upon completing the Directors Education Program.

Ms. Fortin was elected to the Board of Directors of Assuris in 2007.
