Hélène F. Fortin, FCA
Ms. Fortin is a practicing chartered accountant in Montréal since 1990. She is a director of Larose Fortin CA Inc.
Ms. Fortin earned a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from Concordia University and a graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy with Honours from McGill University. She is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and obtained her graduate ICD.D designation in 2006 upon completing the Directors Education Program. From 1985 to 1989, Ms. Fortin was Assistant to the Vice President, Acquisitions and Treasury, at Quebecor Inc., where her responsibilities included business acquisitions. Ms. Fortin began her career with the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
A member of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec for which she writes and lectures on governance related topics, she served on the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) Assurance and Auditing Standards Board from 2006 to 2009. She was involved from 1982 to 2005 with the Interprovincial Board of Evaluators for the CICA and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in accountancy and auditing at a number of universities, including HEC, McGill and UQAM.
She was appointed to the following Boards of Directors and Committees: Concordia University in 2007, Bellus Health (TSX Blu) and the Canada Economic Development Audit Committee in 2008, Loto Quebec in 2008, Infrastructure Québec, VoiceAge, the Canada School of Public Service, two non-profit organizations in health research funding, and GBV (TSX) in 2010, as well as CBC from 2003 to 2008 and Hydro-Quebec from 2006 to 2008.
Ms. Fortin was elected to the Board of Directors of Assuris in 2007.
